Why Onigiri?

Why Onigiri Gospel?

In Japan, the onigiri, or riceball, is a staple food item. Mothers send their children to school with them, rushing businessmen grab them on their way to work, and broke college students eat them for a midnight snack. You can even find energy packets in Japan with slogans such as “As much energy as one rice ball”. The point is that everyone from young to old loves onigiri and they come in seemingly infinite variety.

So why Onigiri Gospel? The origin of the word Onigiri, or お握り, means “grasping, or taking hold of”. This came to colloquially mean taking hold of rice to form a ball, but this vision is a bit different. I want to see the Gospel take hold in Japan, into the hands of the Japanese people. I want Japanese people to seek the gospel for comfort and salvation, rather than the depressing vanities of their current realities.
